Federal fuel mileage -- to get better fuel mileage the manufacturers must make the crossovers (aka station wagon) lower, thinner, and smoother -- aka blimps.

My '76 LTD got about 7.5 mpg.

That style has been replaced with the mini van models. Stationwagons were not just a high demand in sales. The mini vans do much better in fuel economy.

The station wagon was replaced by the SUV, the crossover, etc.

The Ford Flex looks like a station wagon to me, but Ford calls it an SUV. Why does the American Car Brands such as Buick, Chevrolet Ford doesn t offer any Station Wagon models anymore when compared to the 1970 s - 1

Volvo has introduced one. Others haven't because the market for them is minuscule.
