Lost my only key to my car. It's an 02 ford taurus station wagon and has a chip in the key?

Ordered and blank key. Going to get it cut then have it programmed. I have an extra key that will unlock my doors but won't start the car because it doesn't have a chip and isn't programmed for my car. Can I use my key that unlocks the door to get it cut and then use my vin to have them program it?

The door key SHOULD be cut the same as the ignition. You can test that by putting it in the ignition lock and turning backward to the accessory position. If it turns, it is suitable as a template to cut the key.
Any key blank you ordered CAN'T have the chip programmed. Blanks with programmable chips are only sold to locksmiths certified to reprogram them by COPYING the code from an existing key. In your case, you will need to have the CAR reprogrammed to accept the chip in the new key, and that will have to be done at a dealer. Expect to pay about $100 just for the programming. Good luck finding someone willing to cut a key on a blank you didn't buy from them.

You nnight need to get another one nnade up

They should be able to get your key code with your VIN. I'd get 2 keys cut, so you have a spare.

Yeah, that is what you do.

You don't have to and should not, go to a dealership at all. You can do it all with a locksmith cheaper than a dealer or better yet you can buy the keys online then have the locksmith program it, Locksmiths purchase the same information that ford has.

Does the key work in the ignition switch?
To program the key the vehicle is needed and a scan tool is used to program the keys.
You either need to tow the car to the dealer or else call a locksmith to come to the vehicle.
I'd get the 2 new keys you need from the dealer or let the locksmith supply them.
When I worked at the dealer I had to refuse using customer supplied keys because they always turned out to be the wrong keys for the vehicle and wouldn't program to the car.

Go to locksmith, get at least 2 sets made!
