Why can't Ford have the same quality as Toyota does? What are they doing wrong?
I have to drive and maintain a Ford for work. Constant wiring, fuel pump relay, gaskets, water pump, and other issues.
Many Toyotas are problem free other than maintenance.
How does this happen?
I owed a Toyota once, it died at about 80000 miles.
Now the old 78 Ford pick up truck does need a new fuel pump, but with over 300,000 miles on it, that doesn't seem to me to be that bad.
The little Ranger that is it's stable mate is a few years younger and while the fuel gauge isn't working, with it being over twenty years old- it doesn't bother me.
So I don't know why you think Toyota products are better!
I honestly don't know of any one who owns vehicles made by Toyota that have lasted as long as my fords have and those who own Toyota's seem to have more problems with their trucks then I do with my Fords.
By the way if you study quality control, you would find that Toyota used to use the "Ford" quality control program as a basis for their own. After GM bought into Toyota in all honesty the quality control program at Toyota suffered. It is just now getting back to realizing that quality is built in and to depend on warranty work is not conducive to having happy customers.
What kind of Ford is it? What year? Is it used? If so, the previous owner didn't do a good job. Ford are known for reliability.
Any vehicle can be a problem. I've found it has more to do with how the car is driven than who manufactured it. We have many vehicles where I work and all have had some problems. None any more than others. Right now we have an employee who yanks on everything and all our vehicles have had door handle problems.
You must have gotten a lemon, my ford has had NO problems. Just change oil/filter and drive it.
The worst car I have had for issues was a Toyota.
2 brake recalls
It left me stranded 3 times. Twice with electrical issues and once losing gear selection.
That cost a lot of money and 8 hours labour to fix
It was properly serviced and maintained
Hi cost and quality of the build. My last Toyota land cruiser cost was 70 k GBP as it was stating to fail at 8 years old I now have a Ford galaxy 2017 this costs with all the extras 38 k GBP so it does not have the quality in the build.
Ford have improved in last decade and at one stage were very much equal with Toyota and others for reliability. It did have quality control issues and still suffers from its buying 'cheapest ' part from suppliers. Since you often can't have cake and eat it its often a balance between high cost of quality parts and good quality control and price it can see for on open market. In a way its the Ford buyers that set the bar.
since most simply want a cheap car with lots of goodies. And change often. That drives the company supplying cars to deliver what customer demands.
- Am I doing the mile per tank math wrong? I have a Ford Taurus 2002 and it's in bad shape, I know that. The internet says it should have 18 gallon tank and 20 mpg city. My math would be 18gallons X 20miles=360 miles for the tank before needing a refill oif all good. But I figured I've driven about 78 miles the last 3 days and have had to put in about 42 gallons of fuel in it. Am I doing the math wrong or do I really only get 1.85 miles per gallon from the car (78miles/42gallons=1.85mpg)
- Why would people buy a Toyota Hilux when they can buy a better, superior Ford Ranger? I owned a 2010 Toyota Camry and it broke down in 2011 upon reaching 0.6k miles. I treated it like a baby and it failed and disappointed me. My friend also owned a 2008 Toyota Tacoma and it failed to start in 2009 upon reaching 8k miles. And the mechanic said it was impossible to fix. However, my uncle has a 1965 Ford Falcon with over 750k miles on its clock and it still runs like new and he never even changed its oil since he bought it.
- Why would people buy a Toyota Hilux when they can buy a better, Chevrolet Colorado? Or even better and superior, Ford Ranger. My cousin is going to buy a pick-up truck next month and it would be a Toyota Hilux. How do I convince him that the Hilux is not reliable?
- I took my truck my truck to ford to fix a very loud noise and when I Get it back same its the same? I spent eight hundred and something dollars to get this fixed they said I should replace two of them the front and back so they can have the same life span so I forked out another 400 bucks but now when I go home and has the same noise when I turn now they're trying to sell me a wheel bearing for two hundred buckS, its been 5 days what should I do
