What small block V8 would be good for this car?

I'm going to get the motor replaced in a 1964 Ford Galaxie 500. What would be a good small block V8 to get for it? It currently has a 351W in it. The Original motor was a 352.

Added (1). Also, who is a good supplier?

Get 408 stroker from Coast High Performance. It's based on a Windsor block, just like the one sittin' between your frame rails right now. This would keep you from having to hunt down and change a bunch of front-end brackets and things.

302 blocks are plentiful, powerful for the size with some add on hi performance parts, and easy to work on.

351 is the best choice for cost. A modern 4.6 modular motor would be nice, too. You could buy a rusty Crown Vic and swap engine transmission, computer and accessories as a unit. A 390/428 would replace the 352 directly, if you still have the 352 stuff and want it to look original.

The Galaxy is a big car, so as a minimum, I'd get a 351W with the GT40 heads, and a good roller cam ground for low end torque, a dual plane aluminum intake, and a 600 or 650 CFM 4 barrel carburetor. You want low end torque to get that baby moving, so a 351 is a good motor. A 408 stroker has a 4" stroke so it would be even better, but costs more money.

Another alternative is a 400M. They are dogs in factory trim, but with a new cam, intake & carb, you can really wake one up and get some good torque & horsepower. The downside is, they have unique motor mounts and you'd need a big block transmission bellhousing. But they are long stroke, high torque motors as well.

The 351W is already a small black V8. I'd stick with that, if you want more power then I like Knuckles idea of a 408 stroker.

  • Small trucks, good on gas? Suggestions? I'm going to be buying a small truck here in a few weeks. I've been looking mainly into Ford Rangers, I'm a girl who has no experience with trucks and I'm really needing some good advice on what small trucks would be best on gas. I need something handy that could haul a dirt bike and a few things here and there, but one that is also good on gas for driving long distances. Thank you in advance for your help, I really appreciate it!
  • What is a good and small set of surveillance cameras for car? My ford mustang has been hit twice while is been parked and I didn't know who hit it. I need a set of small HD cameras to record front, back and both sides of the car. I appreciate your help.
  • What's a good small car for a big person? My friend is about 6'2 and has a 2001 Chevy Impala. The car keeps breaking down and he's sick of it and is looking for a better car. I drive a Ford Focus and since I'm a small guy (5'6) I fit no problem. He struggles to fit in my car. He wants a small car for better fuel economy but I can't think of a car that he'll comfortably fit in. Any suggestions?
