What's wrong with my car? 2003 Taurus accelerating on its own? What are my options?
I have a 2003 Ford Taurus SES. It has 168k miles on it. I've noticed that when I let go of the gas, it doesn't decelerate, it coasts at the same speed or will accelerate. I started noticing this after I got off the interstate. I was breaking and the break pedal was vibrating to the point where it was vibrating my side of the car, and when I let go it jolted forward, like it drank two doubleshots and wanted to go. I've did some research and people have said speed control cables and cruise control cables getting all twisted up. No matter what "drive" I put it in (it has 2 of them and I guess one saves gas) it does this, and i noticed it accelerates quickly when it's down hill. Brakes still work great on it, I'm just afraid to drive it because I don't want the problem getting worse. I have to get this fixed before my driving test next week, and I want to get the input with you guys before I take it to a mechanic because the ones near me try to milk you out of all your money.
Go to a mechanic
Could be a stuck throttle cable or a bad tps (throttle positioning sensor). Depending on what your car has most newer cars have tps. That's what I would look into first, it's not that expensive of fix.
I agree with Michael. Also get an OBD2 code test to have a clue what's wrong and how you want to get it fixed.
You have a warped rotor.
You need to get into a repair shop As soon as possible because there's a problem that if left unfixed could kill you. And if they do not seem to know what it is and guess, take it some place else.
The cruise control servo has to be set to the throttle cable. It sounds like the servo isn't releasing when you apply the brakes. Have cruise control checked and adjusted and replaced if needed. Also check the control actuators in the steering wheel/column.
- What are my options when my car lease is up? I leased a car through ford for 2 years. It has been a year now and I'm looking into my options for when it is up. I would like to get a new truck so can I take my leased car to a different dealership and trade it in as a trade in? If not what are my options
- Need options on a break cylinder job for a 03 ford Taurus car? Need a few pointers and options on a car. So the break cylinder was bad and it got replaced. But it's still leaking a little fluid (not as much before it was replaced) and the car won't stop at all. Does the breaks need bled or what? The car won't stop period and it was driven for a bit with the cylinder bad. Is there a chance a lot of air is in the break lines and need bled? But would that make it leak a little fluid from the cylinder? Just need some options on what to do next.
- Why did my car start rolling on its own when changing the spark plugs? I got a ford 1999 taurus SE, when I was changing the spark plugs and wireset in the back part of the engine it, I felt it start rolling back. I had it in park, I quickly ran to the drivers side and put the E brake on but I still don't understand why it did that. It drove fine after that and so did the parking brake but wtf?
- 07 Ford Taurus jerking when accelerating after stops? The car was jerking after being warmed up, and then I would be at a stop light. After accelerating, the car would drive normal, I'd watch the RPM's increase to almost 3 and then a hard jerk and then it kept going. Added Lucas Trans Fix and the jerking stopped but not the RPM's go past 3 and it shifts but sometimes makes a grinding noise. The Check Transmission light comes on after idling for a bit. Any idea what could be wrong?
