Rear strut replacement: 04 Ford Taurus?
A mechanic recommended getting my rear struts done because one of them is shot and leaking oil. Said each strut would cost $180.
I found a pair of complete strut assemblies on a website, brand-new, for sale for $140 total. Completestruts.com.
Is this deal too good to be true? And if I get the parts online will a mechanic still install them for me?
He may install them but may charge you more labor to make up for not selling parts.
You can probably find the struts for even less than what you have ; you would need to call some auto repair shops to ask what they charge to install them
He might but at a little bit more on labor. Part two if one of these struts goes during the warranty then you get another strut for free mechanic recharges labor since you supplied the part. Part three have you tried to get a second or third estimate from other shops to save some money. I would
The $180 ea quote included installation and alignment. It would be better to buy from mechanic because he will warranty parts and labor. It will cost about $200 in labor to install and align parts bought on line.

- How much should a rear main seal replacement cost? I have a 2000 ford ranger 4x4 with a 3.0l v6. The rear main seal is leaking, but here is the deal, it has a 3 inch body lift which makes it really easy to reach the transmission bolts vs the factory pull the motor method. So, what do you think it should cost… Ballpark answer?
