Ford Taurus 2004 O2 sensor replacement?

I was told that i need my O2 sensors replaced. I want to buy them cheap online and get them installed professionally. What O2 sensors and how many do i need to purchase?

02 sensors do not cost that much and I can assure you if you can find cheaper ones and then have them installed professionally you will end up paying just as much if not more then just having them installed by the mechanic in the first place. The only way you will save money is to install them yourself. How many depends on the car and just because one is bad does not mean the others are bad.

1) "Really?" is correct. In addition, many shops either won't install owner-supplied parts or will not warranty their work if they do.

2) Even my 12 year old has the skills to get on the internet and look up part numbers for me, so don't be lazy. Do your own keyword search for "2004 Ford Taurus O2 Sensor"

Do not go cheap on O2 sensors. Only install factory or OEM ones.

Garages love when you walk in with your own parts. There's upstream and downstream O2's. Either have a clue or let them do their job.

I don't know any decent mechanics that will mess with a customer guessing at buying 02 sensors on line. It's not a smart thing for you to buy your own parts and it's dumb if he gets talked into installing parts he's not sure of. Who told you that you need 02 sensors? Some auto parts store clerk? What codes did you have? Before replacing 02 sensors I always hook up a scan tool and monitor the electrical readings and watch the switching times. You'll have no warranty if you buy your own parts and the mechanic will not guarantee the job.

Most garages provide the replacement parts if they are putting them in. You aren't going to go to any garage and have a mechanic to put your bought part in and take it off the bill. That would be like bringing your own lettuce, pickle, tomato to burger king, wanting a whopper without this stuff in hopes they will take it off the price of the finished sandwich lol

Buying cheap ones will just mean you'll buy them again, soon.
