Minor wreck. What was leaking? Is it totaled?

So, last night a car stopped In the middle of the road so the Jeep in of me slammed on brakes, so I slammed on mine, but it was wet so I slid and smashed into the back of the Jeep. Anyways, I know I'll need a new hood, but since the Jeep is bigger than my 2004 Ford Taurus Se we went under her car. So the bumper is just fine. Airbags did not deploy on impact. Anyways, when I got out, I noticed that a bunch of stuff was leaking on the passenger side, and a lot of steam/smoke was coming out. The car was still running, and i could drive it forward, but I could not turn the steering wheel. So, what could the fluids be? Perhaps since I couldn't turn the wheel it was just steering fluid? And since the air bags didn't deploy does that means there's possibly no structural damage? Since it's a 2004, is it a total loss? Just trying to et an idea before my insurance starts doing estimates etc.

Probably lost power steering fluid. May have damaged the radiator and caused coolant to pour out onto the exhaust and steam. If the radiator was damaged the ac condenser my also be damaged causing the ac system to loose its charge. Gonna have to get it looked at to determine the extent of the damage.

No it's probably repairable but it will be a close thing and may be a total loss. You crashed into the car in front because you were too close for the conditions. It's important you understand your error here as next time you may not walk away.

It sounds like your radiator was damaged.

  • 99 Ford Taurus: ok guys and ladies, let's wreck our brains on this? I went to store one day bought a soda, got back in my car turned the key: NOTHING. I POPPED hood no sign of anything I'd obviously suspect. Battery charged fuses good, but only half my dash indicator lights come on. Doors lock, Windows work, but get this, the running lights stay on! No key no switch just stay on. OBD Il port won't respond to diagnostic tool. Before you say PCM, think about my symptoms. I'm here waiting… Ford tech reach out and help me!
  • Red oil substance leaking from Ford Ka? I have a manual 2001 ford Ka petrol, only today i noticed that when stopping/ pulling away the car started to judder and seem as if it was going to stall. I also noticed that it was very difficult to put into gear. When i parked it at home i noticed that there was a sizable puddle of reddish oil like liquid on the floor. Any idea where its coming from? And how to fix it?
  • Ford said i have a minor oil leak and they said if i see smoke take it 2 the nearest shop. What do i do? Ford said i have a minor oil leak and they said if i see smoke take it 2 the nearest shop… What do i do?
  • Coolant leaking from thermostat? I have a 2004 Ford Explorer Sports Trac. How much would it cost to get this fixed at an auto shop? Is it simple enough to do at home? I'm not very car savvy. Well I took it in to one auto shop and they said the thermostat was leaking and needed to be fixed and that it'd cost me $300. That seems like a lot of money just for a leak? So I wasn't sure.
