How should I go about buying a new car?

Not "new" as in brand new, but "new" as in new to me.

I'm 16 and I have a 1996 Ford Taurus with 175,000 miles on it. It needs new brakes, new spark plugs, new EGR valve, and the list goes on and on. It barely wants to start in the morning time, even if its 60-70 degrees. When it does start and runs like ****.

I need a new car before the winter comes because I know that this car has no chance. I think last years winter was so bad it just ruined my car. (Michigan)

I have a problem. I don't want to spend any of my money too fix it because I would rather save it up to buy a new car, but then again, I don't know if that is a good way to go. Please help me with any advice, and how to go about buying a new car.

The REASON your current car "has no chance" is because the stupid vehicle owner refuses to properly care for it. It will cost a heck of a lot less to repair and maintain a car you already own rather than throwing it away and buying another used car that MAY have some of the same problems.

Set a budget of how much you want to spend
then start looking for a car in that price range.
go to websites like cars.com or autotrader.com and see kind of cars is out there.
you can either pay cash for the whole car or pay a down payment and finance the rest. But since your 16 years old only, your going to need and adult if your planning to finance.

Think about how much it would cost you to repair your taurus and compare it towards buyinng another vehicle.9/10 it is more economical to just repair the vehicle.

  • Things to know before buying a new or used vehicle? It's my first major choice. Please help and yes I'm going anonymous because I don't want to be judged. Do I pay exactly what the sticker says? Am I supposed to ask questions? What should I know and what is the best choice if you please? Ford's seem like durable vehicles that are easy to work on or I don't know just help please?!
  • I need a little advice in buying a new car? I have a great steady job and I can afford to buy a car from the dealership. It is the first time I ever go to a dealership for a car. I'm just wondering if there's any good reliable brands you can recommend to look out for? How is Ford, in your opinion? Also, what are the next steps one takes after buying a new car? Tags, plates, and insurance right?
