Anything about a 1997 ford Taurus transmission?

When you drive it it slips and goes back into neutral is that a problem with the transmission?

If it drops into neutral momentarily when going around corners, you may be low on transmission fluid. Check it, and if it is low, adding fluid will fix that problem.

However, if it's low because you have a leak, you'll need to fix the leak, or you'll wind up back in the same boat.

Automatic or standard?

It could be the transmission or a linkage. Anyone work on the car recently? Hit anything recently?

  • Will a 2006 taurus auto transmission fit a 2004 ford taurus? I have a 2004 ford taurus with an auto transmission. At first it was jumping out of overdrive, now it won't go in to overdrive and it slips.
  • Transmission harsh engagement (1997 Ford Taurus GL)? When I shift from park to reverse or drive and even when i put it in park it engages very harshly. What could be the problem? Please recommend a fix.
  • Transmission fluid change or flush or both (1997 Ford Taurus GL)? I just got a 1997 Ford Taurus GL with over 133000 miles. The car is in pretty good shape but when I shift gears it shifts kind of hard. I have no idea if the trans has ever been serviced but my guess is that it need to be. Would you recommend just draining the pan, changing the filter and gasket and replenishing the fluid or should I do a flush? Not a power flush. Just using an extension hose to drain the old fluid and add new fluid. Or do you recommend both? If so, in what order?
  • 2001 ford taurus vs 1997 mitsubishi mirage? I'm looking to buy a car and i have the option to buy the taurus off of my dad but I'm looking on craigslist and saw the Mitsubishi. I was just curious over all which one would be a better car. Both have about the same amount of miles.
