Did my alternator go out?

Okay I was driving earlier when i began to smell a foul odor. Smelling like burnt rubber. Then i began to see smoke coming from my vents. Then my battery light came on. Temp gauge stayed at normal so i'm guessing the car didn't overheat but smoke was coming from vents and under hood. I have a 2000 ford taurus. So after the battery light came on i lost power and the car slowed to a stop. Losing complete power. Nothing works. Does this sound like my alternator burned out or something else?

This could be any one of a dozen different problems, or a combination of problems. Get it checked out by a mechanic. Nobody here will be able to tell you exactly what the problem is, much less fix it for you.

It could indeed be the alternator but you still need to see a mechanic. Because replacing parts from the say so of those of us here will likely mean you will spend a lot of money on parts and still have issues.

Something on your Serpentine belt seized causing it to burn and fail this is why your car won't do anything and the battery light came on. It could have been your AC or your ALT or P/S. You'll need whatever seized repaired and a new Serpbelt installed. If it was you AC it can usually be bypassed with and idler pulley and a shorter belt anything else will have to be repaired.
