Car won't start, power works and makes a single click noise?

I have a 93 ford Taurus.
When I try to start my car, it was just making a single click noise and then would eventually start after I tried a couple more times.

The other day it wouldn't start, still made the single click noise, I tried a couple more times and now it doesn't make the noise at all.

The power works, my headlights don't dim or anything like that. I've had my car jumped and that still didn't work so I'm curious as to what it could be?

A bad battery or bad battery cables. They could be loose or corroded. Since you say it did start i'd lean towards your problem being the cables. Check them and make sure they're clean and tight at both ends of both cables. It could also be a problem with the starter too but start with checking the simple things.

As starters get older, they require more and more amps to get them to turn. Eventually, it becomes too much and won't start even when jumped. A new starter may require 100 amps. A worthless starter may require 200 amps or more and just keeps getting worse. I'm not sure about the numbers at all. When you change the starter, you can also change the cable from the battery to the starter for $10. Yours may be green and very corroded. A bad connection could be the problem. I would change the starter and check the cable for ageing. I'm not sure if Fords have a starter relay on the firewall. It could be that also. Other manufacturers have it on the starter. The battery cable goes to either the starter relay on the firewall and then to the starter, or it goes to the starter/ solenoid (which is another word for starter relay) down near the bottom of the engine. Just follow the positive battery cable. Buying a new starter also includes the solenoid in most cars these days. On Fords, sometimes there's no solenoid on the starter. It's on the firewall; it's called a starter relay.

  • Why did my car start and die when put into gear? Now it won't start at all? It's a cold winter day (below zero) Car started right up! I let it run for about 2 minutes, I put it in gear and it just died. I figured it's cold out, not real surprising, but when I tried to start it again, it won't start! Turns over fine but engie won't start! Any ideas? 2003 Ford Taurus 3.0L
  • Power steering noise on Ford Focus, still works? Suddenly, my power steering has got noisy. It makes a noise when idling and increases when I press the gas pedal and also when I turn the wheel. The power steering fluid level looks OK, a little bit below the minimum level but I can see it when I take the cap off. Is this just going to be a quick belt replacement or something far more expensive? Is it safe to keep driving? And also, can The AA or RAC fix this at the roadside or is it a garage job?
  • Noise works, but when I push it, it also makes a clicking/rattling noise? I have a 2012 Ford Focus, and while the horn works, and sounds (as it normally does), when I press it, it also makes a weird clicking/rattling noise (also kinda like a jingle sound - hard to describe). It sounds as if it's coming from behind the center console/under the center console, but it's hard to tell. Any ideas what it could be? With any answers - any advice on how to fix it? Question should say HORN Works
  • I have a 2004 ford f-150 5.4 triton new body style and the exhaust makes noise? It does not make the noise when i'm in park or neutral however when i put it in reverse or drive it starts making like a ratttle noise? kind of sounds like the ehaust is loose but when my boyfriend checked under it it seemed fine. It only does it about 15 minutes after being started but there's days when there's no noise at all
