Starting and idling problem?
My 1972 Ford thunderbird is pretty much complete with all the parts I need on it. The problem I have with it currently is getting it started. The engine cranks but doesn't start up and I don't know how to solve that problem. I usually have to prime or first to start it. But once started, it doesn't stay idling. Why isn't it idling like it should? It set to idle around 750 rpm which is higher than it should be but doesn't stay idling. And for my last question, the car also dies when put into gear. It has the original 3 speed automatic transmission. When I put the car into drive or reverse, the engine rpm will lower and then sputter and die and I'm not sure how to solve that problem as well. Can anyone help with those three problems?
Timing, then idle mixture screw setting. Fuel pressure and float level will also radically effect things.
It needs a proper tuneup and possibly a carb rebuild.
- What's the problem here, with the A/C and the idling engine? 2000 Ford Contour SE. 1. A/c blows the air out from the defrost vents by the windshield instead of the vents on the panel… 2. When I'm stopped at a red light with car idling, the car starts vibrating as if it wants to shut off. I was told the problem was a sensor that's connected to the engine that keeps the engine revved at a steady pace while it's idle. Is that true?
- Car acceleration problem and idle problem. The car is a 2003 Ford Taurus? . When the car is running and in parked its making a loud consisted rev noise. However the rpm needle thingy is not moving. when i'm in drive the car acclerates on its own with the speed ever increasing. i did some googling and learned that it can be the TPS sensor or the idle air intake valve, among a million other possiblities.
- 96 ford ranger starting problem? I have a 96 Ford Ranger 4.0L 6cyl. Manual. It just started having this problem. It starts up good and runs good. After driving awhile and i go into a store and come back out to start it… It starts up then acts like it wants to die, i press the gass and put it into gear and drive, after that its good until i stop it again. Any ideas?
- 88 ford ranger. Idling at 1200-1500 RPMs and gets 12 MPG. What is wrong? The only thing i have done to it was clean the intake with B12. I also used jb40 with that. Seems like sometime after that this happened. The truck runs great, its just idling high and its using alot of gas. Some trobleshooting tips would be cool. I don't want to go replacing a bunch of stuff i don't need too. I appreciate your help.
