Starter or solenoid problem on 99 ford Tarus?
Added (1). i have a 1999 ford tarus, i had the starter replaced about a year ago. I went to start it a couple of day ago and nothing. When i started with the lights on they do not dim at all. If i tap on the solenoid/starter it starts. Is this a problem with the starter or the solenoid?
Yes, i got it started, by tapping on it, see above.
Could be either! If it's solenoid we can normally get a clicking noise when trying to crank. Tapping with a mallet while cranking can often get it going.
If only a single click and no amount of tapping gets any cranking. Odds are it's motor itself.
In either case it's normally best to replace as a whole unit.
Do bear in mind a poor battery can give such issue too so have we tried a jump start?

- Can a car have a starter relay and starter solenoid? I have a 1972 Ford thunderbird and I feel like it may have a starter relay as well as a starter solenoid. On the starter motor there's a starter solenoid. I know that for sure. On the fender of the car appears to have something that resembles a starter relay. I've heard some people tell me that they can't have both but is it possible that it could be that?
