Will my new head unit fit into my 2000 Ford Ranger?
I have a new Kenwood DPX501BT double Don head unit that I'm going to install into my truck. I've seen some YouTube videos online of putting in other double din head units into this model but they had to grind off some trim so it could fit, will I have any difficulties making this fit?
Yes. Is there anything else?
Measure twice, cut once.
Yes, you will need to do some cutting. No, you do NOT cut the trim panel. You remove the panel and cut the dashboard sub frame. It's the thick black plastic that surrounds the radio. Beware, once you do this, the stock radio will NOT fit back in the hole properly. You may not care, but some people like to put the stock radio back in (and keep their expensive replacement) when they sell their vehicle. This will not be possible if you cut the dash.
If you have the right tools, this is a very easy job. A hacksaw will do just fine.
- Installing Aftermarket Head Unit in 2003 Ford Taurus SES? I can't figure out the wiring situation. I got the harness that runs all the way back to the trunk; however, it only has 9 wires. Two for each of the four speakers (8) and one to control an amp if applicable. However, while the wires from the head unit have two power wires, the harness has none. The head unit I got is a DEH-X6700BS. Please help, how do I power this head unit when the wiring harness has no wires for power, only speaker wires?!
- Installing a head unit in Ford Taurus? So I know you have to buy the kit to put your own head unit in the Taurus. My question is since I have the one with the 6 disc cd changer do I have to buy a more expensive kit even tho I'm not gna use the cd changer anymore? Also going to wire the car up for amp and sub to be later installed since the head unit will be out already.
