What's a maintainable v8 I could put in a 1990 Ford ranger cheap low mileage at least 300 hp?

Hello this income tax I will be finding a small 1985 to 1992 square body Ford ranger roller I've got my cosmetic and suspension ideas down but I'd like some ideas on a cheap v8 and transmission that would mount well and not be very hard to maintain I'm more educated on Chevy but I love these trucks it was my first one And I'm going to build it I'd like it to be pretty powerful without paying through the nose just trying to get some ideas I'll be upgrading the motor with cams upgraded carb or injectors depending on the motor over time

Grow up and get safe modern car with ABS, ESP, and suspension that allows the car to stay on the road with 300 bhp

You have a big, but fun, job in front of you.
Looks like a 302 (5.0) with a nice C4 trans will work just fine.
Here's a link with a lot of good information.

Either a 347W or 351W paired with a built AOD would be my choice. Either will make 340-370 HP without much fuss. Although if you want a stock engine that you pull from a junkyard, you're probably going to have to go with a 5.3L LS. But the 302/331/347/351/408/427 windsor can be swapped in easily, there are several purpose built kits for swap. Just keep in mind that if you want 300 HP, you're going to have rebuild the 302/351W with a least new heads, cam, and intake manifold. If you want a manual, a T-5 would be cheap.
