Timing belt replacement on 1997 Ford Ranger 2.3L XLT?

I'm replacing a timing belt on my ford ranger in the morning, I was curious if I have to remove the crankshaft pulley in order to time it or if I just have to line up the markings and then put the belt back on. And no suggestions to take it to a mechanic most people learn by doing themselves its an old truck so that's what I'm doing.

Not very familiar with Ford but I'd say you have to remove the crankshaft pulley to remove the front timing cover. I usually get the crank on the mark and feed the timing belt on the cams counterclockwise and align the mark on the camshaft and rotate the camshaft counterclockwise to remove the slack and count the teeth it's out and just turn it that many teeth to clockwise and do the same with the other camshaft until all the slack is on the tensioner side. Then rotate the crankshaft a couple times and recheck the timing marks. Hi it might be an old truck the easiest way to wreck it is to get the timing wrong sunshine. Get a shop manual. It will give you a step by step walk through.

Or wing it and buy a new vehicle if you are wrong. Scrap that You're going to learn oh boy. If you don't even know that the crankshaft pulley has to come off to put the new timing belt on I'll be waiting for the next question…"Is it an interference motor"?! Watch a youtube video to see how it's done.
