Problems getting 94 ford ranger to start?

4 days ago i bought a 1994 4x4 5speed splash ranger. Drove it home in 2wd no problem, ran great. Put it in 4wd the same day and tried to go and it lunged forward and died, like a really hard stall. Then i tried to start it again and nothing. No starter clicks, no engine cycle, no noise, nothing. Also the CEL came on when i tried to start it. I just put a new starter and solenoid in it thinking it was that, but it wasn't. And i figured before i spend another $200 id get some help from some people who know a little more than i. Any ideas as to what the problem may be? Can't get anywhere to get the CEL ran.treuck will drift start just fine.

When you turn the key on, does the fuel pump run for a second or two then stop running? If not, you have a no fuel problem. Try this: remove the air intake hose from the throttle body, spray starting fluid or carb cleaner into the tb opening, slide the hose back on then try starting it. If it starts and runs for a few seconds then dies, its a no fuel problem. If it doesn't start at all, you have a no spark problem. Your truck has a fuel pump inertia switch located behind the driver seat or on the passenger side floorboard near the transmission hump. That switch may be tripped, so try to push the button and see if it resets then start the truck. You can also pull codes out of the computer without a scanner. I don't have enough room here to post all of the possible causes, so check the link below. The info shown in the link below will list procedures for diagnosing a no start condition.Mustang tests are shown, but the Ranger has most of the same components.http://sbftech.com/index.php/topic,588.0.html
