My 1999 ford rangers won't crank?

Battery with full charge 12volt. I turn the ignition switch to start and it won't. Radio turns on, power Windows works. Engine won't crank

It could be a defective fuse, starter relay, neutral safety switch(automatic transmission)clutch safety switch(manual)loose or corroded starter cable, or defective starter. You can test the neutral safety or clutch safety switch-disconnect the wiring harness from the switch then insert a 10amp fuse into the terminals on the disconnected wiring harness, then try to start the vehicle. If the vehicle starts, the switch is bad. You can check the starter relay by removing it, borrow another relay in the panel that has a matching part number and swap it in place of the starter relay. If the vehicle starts now, the starter relay is bad. If you disconnect the wire and cable from the starter and momentarily touch jumper cables(attached to battery posts)to the starter solenoid posts, if the starter doesn't turn over its bad. If the starter turns over, the ignition switch is bad.

  • What common problems do Ford Rangers have? I'm looking into buying a used Ford Ranger (2000 or newer) but I've heard that certain years have head gasket, clutch and transmission problems. I've read 2002 Rangers are known for warped head gaskets. Any other years I should avoid?
  • Did ford ever put a V8 in any of the Rangers? I'm wondering if Ford ever made a Ford Ranger with a V8 engine. I know for a fact that they put a 4 cylinder and V6's in them and I know they put V8's in Ford Explorer's but I have no idea if they put them in the Ranger
  • 07 ford ranger. Crank but won't start? Replaced pump & filter. 4.0 liter. Also hit gas reset. Took line off from filter & it's pumping gas
  • 2006 Ford Explorer won't crank? Battery and starter both tested fine. Turn the key no headlights or dash lights. Changed out multi function relay under the dash, but still just clicks at relay.
