Just pulled front brakes of 96 ford ranger xl and now scraping noise while driving?

Pulled front brakes off my truck to see how wore out they were because they were squeeling put them back on perfectly no hassle and now when I drive I hear a horrible scraping noise on right front passenger side but I stop on a dime and my brakes don't get hot or smell I'm so confused please help?

Jack that wheel up and spin the tire and narrow it down to what is making the noise. I would have thought it was a caliper sticking, but you say the brakes aren't getting hot, so that doesn't make sense.

You unseated the brakes. And depending on the condition of said brake pads you may be hitting the wear tab or you managed to break something loose or picked up a rock either way go spend the 30 bucks and throw new pads on.

We have issue on one side. This often occur when fitting pads where one is worn differently to other and both are interchangeable. This cal allow edge of pad to grind on raised portion ( less worn) of disc ( rotor) giving this noise.
try swapping pads around. Check while refitting shims etc ok and no grit lodged in calliper.

Define Fine? Brake pads have a mental tab that when it comes into contact with the rotor will make a scraping noise Reasons being its time to replace them If they were not there you wouldn't know when the pads got down to the rivets and chews up your rotors too There should be about an 8th of an inch left
they are close to toast at that point Never in my 35 yrs of mechanic have I seen a car with cold brakes
So they get hot If you have a little meat there you'll stop on dimes until it gone Then you won't stop at all

Hope it helps
