No! Too old and too small.
You're well over the design limit, which was a maximum of 2300 lbs.
Depends on where you are taking it - mountains, no. Flat, maybe. You have to worry more about being able to stop. Look at the sticker on the driver door. It should tell you the GVWR. Subtract the weight of the truck + passengers and that will tell you approx. What the payload is.
Use something else. This will pull itself a little longer but that is all.
Can a 25 year-old truck pull a 2700 pound trailer? Maybe. That's not a great deal of weight, but what condition is your truck in? Is it a 4-cylinder or a V-6? Automatic or manual transmission? How are the brakes on your truck? Does it have a frame mounted receiver hitch that can support that much weight? Proper wiring for the trailer lights? How far are you going to tow your trailer? Level road surfaces or mountains?
Maybe you should do some more research before you just hook up and go.
The 93 Ranger can tow anywhere from 2300 to 6,000 pounds. It depends on the engine, rear end and tow package.
Owners manual or some sticker or plate on the truck will indicate the GVWR. A camper in the box? Then you are carrying over 1 1/4 ton. Think you have a toy… For a truck.
If you have the 4.0L and the automatic, then you should be able to tow that much without issue. If it's a four cylinder and/or a manual, then no.
We simply need to check manufacturers tow limits ( which you will be exceeding) . This was we stay safe.it will tow ok and we stay insured.
trying to tow any weight over the stated capacity ( owners manual normally or check with any main dealer/or the manufacturer) will invalidate insurance cover and may well lead to dangerous handling and braking issues!
You can check your owners manual. If you don't have it you can look it up on- line. It should tell you how much your vehicle can tow. My sedan can pull a total of 2,000lbs including passengers and other cargo.

- Have 98 Ford Ranger, 4.0, 171,000 miles, auto trans with limited slip. I've owned truck since new and have changed trans fluid every 30-35 000 miles and have never towed anything. The majority of the 171,000 miles are interstate driving. The truck shifts fine with no jerking or slippage. What I do get is thump(s) in rear end when I come to a stop, as gears are downshifting. Do I need a new transmission? Any suggestions? I suppose it's a "clunk" I hear and feel when I come to a stop, not a thump.
