Does Ford make Mazdas in their factories?
I know Ford owns the Mazda company. And I know the small Mazda pickup is just a re-badged Ranger truck. But what about the other Mazdas? Are they assembled in Ford factories or Mazda factories when they are assembled in the USA? What about if they are assembled in Japan? Is that a shared Ford-and-Mazda factory, or just a Mazda factory, that Ford bought, but then left alone to operate the way it always did? (As you probably guessed, I have not had the best experiences with Fords. But I loved the Japanese Mazda truck that I owned, before Ford bought Mazda.)
In a way its sad that Ford doesn't own much of Mazda because now with all Mazdas coming from Japan, the taxes are higher shipping them to USA is higher and Jobs have been lost at Flat Rock. Ford might have been better off to keep Mazda under their wing and made Mazda and Mercury a separate division. Ford and Mazda both made great strides in Technical and development advantages. The Current Logo (}) , is designed by Ford in 1996 to help Mazda increase sales. Mazda was having distribution and manufacturing problems too that Ford helped them iron out. Henry Wallace of Ford led Mazda out of many of their problems and got them on the fast track. The Rotary Engine was a monkey on Mazda's back for years and now production of the engine has ended.
Nope.
And Ford does NOT own Mazda.
Ford once owned 33% of Mazda, the controlling share in the company. But in 2008, Ford sold most of it's shares back to Mazda so Mazda was in control again. Ford only owns 3% shares in Mazda. Mazda owns itself now.
The only Mazda's made in America were the Mazda 626, 6, Tribute, MX-6 and B series.
The Mazda 626, 6, and MX-6 was designed by Mazda. All Japanese designed, but built in America.
The Mazda 626, 6, MX-6, and Ford Probe were built in the same factory. The Ford Probe was Ford's copy of the Mazda designed Mazda MX-6 sports car. Therefore, the Ford Probe was a very reliable car.
The only Mazda's that had Ford designed and Ford made parts are the Mazda Tribute/Ford Escape, and the Mazda B series/Ford Ranger. These were built in the same factory in America.
All other Mazda's were designed and built in Japan like the RX2, RX-3, RX-4, RX-7, RX-8, 323, 3, Protege, Miata MX-5, CX-5, CX-9, Mazdaspeed cars, and the new 2014 Mazda 6.
At this time, Mazda no longer makes any cars in the US All of their cars are designed and made in Japan.
Ford borrowed many parts from Mazda over the years.
The 2007-2009 Ford Fusion was essentially a 2003-2008 Mazda 6.
The 2008-2010 Ford Focus was essentially a 2004-2009 Mazda 3.
The 2011 Ford Fiesta and 2011 Mazda 2 share the same platform as well.
^Don't be confused. Mazda still used their own engines transmission and Ford used their own engines and transmissions in the cars I just mentioned. But the platforms were the same with a similar suspension setup, steering, handling, braking, etc.
In the 90's, the Mazda Protege and Ford Focus shared suppliers for ancillary parts like alternator, fuel pumps, power steering pumps. So they bought and used some of the same parts from Bosche and other companies. But the Mazda was still completely designed and built by Mazda in Japan and the Ford was completely designed and built by Ford in America.
Ford never did own Mazda! They did own (at one time) the biggest block of stock (45% if I remember right). To keep from getting money from the US government they sold a lot of that stock and lost control of the board of directors.
I'm sorry to hear that Mazda and Fiat are in a co-venture. I guess a new Miata just moved off of my shopping list. The Fiat Spiders were junk back in the 60's and with Fiat's help that is no doubt where the Miata is headed with that kind of help!
If you want the low down on what Mazda products are assembled where- check the Mazda USA site or look up info on the different models. Where they are being assembled, engine plants and the like will be listed or should be able to be found with a little research.
Ford no longer owns Mazda. Ford factories do not build Mazda parts. Mazda is pretty much on her own, recently they have a joint venture with Toyota and Fiat. Fiat will pair up with Mazda to build a new Miata Mx5, its gorgeous. Hiroshima, Japan is the site of Mazda's manufacturers Hofu Plants 1 and 2. Mazda is fully supported from the Japanese Transportation Ministry, Hiroshima University and Mazda.
Ford no longer owns any substantial portion of Mazda. The only plant that builds both brands is AutoAlliance in Thailand, which does not export to the States. (There was an AutoAlliance plant in Flat Rock, Michigan; the Mazda 626 and later 6 were built there alongside various Fords, but Ford now owns it outright.)
- Why is the UAW closing Ford factories in Ohio even after Trump told the UAW leadership to keep the plant open? Are the leaders of the UAW treasonous for refusing to obey a direct order from the President of the United States?
- Media and the left are bent on believing Ford no matter what. Will she make up details to make sure her story is believable? So far her only witness has denied being there. Her details are so sketchy they are not really believable. But, Kavanaugh is being roasted anyway. This is just terrible. The point being, she could say ANYTHING at this point and the left would believe it. She can contradict herself (the number of people in the room) or she can flat out lie because we're not demanding any proof. It is really terrible what they are doing to Kavanaugh.
- How does Ford distribute their cars from manufacture to delivery at retail sales location? I'm trying to write a paper on different distribution methods used and I can't find anything about how Ford takes a new car and gets it to the dealer. Do they ship it on train or truck? Who pays for the shipping? What is the entire distribution process?
- Is Ford going to layoff more people and close factories? http://money.cnn.com/2018/04/25/autos/ford-cars-north-america/index.html "Ford (F) said on Wednesday the only passenger car models it plans to keep on the market in North America will be the Mustang and the upcoming Ford Focus Active, a crossover-like hatchback that's slated to debut in 2019. That means the Fiesta, Taurus, Fusion and the regular Focus will disappear in the United States and Canada."
