Did I damage My engine die to over reving?

So yesterday i was driving and accidently pulled out infront of someone and downshifted and hit my redline 6000 rpm and the truck drove normal after that for 10 miles. I got home turned it off and went inside. Later that night i went outside and started it and it started to miss really bad and idle rough. Once i get it past 2000 rpm it runs normal. 2001 Ford Ranger 2.3 I4

Was gonna guess that it jumped timing… But that doesn't account for it running normal for 10 miles.

No check engine light, I presume. All that points to the EGR valve possibly sticking open. It opened a lot during the zoom and may not have closed completely. The way to tell is to remove it (not usually a hard job) and visually inspect it.
