Will After Market Exhaust Damage An Engine?

Wanting to put in 2 flowmaster super 10s into my 02 Ford GT, its stock. 94k miles. H-Pipe. Currently has borla pro xs muffers in, but wanting it louder. Was told if I do put them in to have the car tuned. Is a tune needed? And if so what do you think the cost would be.

You are already taking the chance of the CEL being lit w/the illegal exhaust on there now, so go ahead… It's your junker

Unless you have done some serious engine modifications most if not all the "tuning" the system needs is with in the capabilities of the stock engines ECM. Dyno-Tuning is not cheap and the cost is by the hour. For a stock engine hardly worth the cost. (300 to 500 dollars an hour)
Also unless the ECM is "programmable" nothing can be done. Even then unless a aftermarket system like Mega Squirt is used there might not be any change that can be made that the stock ECM will do by running the engine.

A tune is not needed and no, different mufflers will not damage the engine.

  • Which exhaust/exhaust system would work best for my car? I own a 1970 Ford Torino (Brougham) with a 351 Cleveland engine running on stock exhaust. I want to upgrade the exhaust (I'm thinking Flowmaster) but like, does the whole exhaust system need to be done, or like half? I need your help making my baby roar lol. Please give me your best suggestions and approximate cost.
  • Smoke coming from exhaust after 15-20 mins of driving? I have a 1976 ford ltd 7.5l. It drives fine but after maybe 15-20 minutes smoke starts to come from the exhaust pipes. I checked the oil and radiator and it looks fine. Oil and radiator fluid is not mixing.
  • Did I damage My engine die to over reving? So yesterday i was driving and accidently pulled out infront of someone and downshifted and hit my redline 6000 rpm and the truck drove normal after that for 10 miles. I got home turned it off and went inside. Later that night i went outside and started it and it started to miss really bad and idle rough. Once i get it past 2000 rpm it runs normal. 2001 Ford Ranger 2.3 I4
  • Can you damage your car engine by changing the oil at every 3,000 miles? The Ford dealer service advisors said that it could destroy the new engine by putting too much clean fluid in it. He advises every 10,000 miles between oil changes. I have a prepaid service plan. 2018 Ford Fusion
