New or used? What year(s)? What criteria should we use to make a comparison?

For 2011, the Ranger was discontinued in the United States and Canada. So I guess the Chevy.
- Why would people buy a Toyota Hilux when they can buy a better, Chevrolet Colorado? Or even better and superior, Ford Ranger. My cousin is going to buy a pick-up truck next month and it would be a Toyota Hilux. How do I convince him that the Hilux is not reliable?
- Chevy Colorado or Ford Mustang? I'm getting a new vehicle in the next couple years, and wanted to go ahead and get an idea of what I'll be buying. It's between a 2010-2011 Mustang (probably GT, but maybe a 6cyl) and a 2009-2011 Chevy Colorado (most likely V8) With the Mustang, I'd probably just black it out, and with the truck I'd lift it a little and put some offroad tires and black rims on it. Which would be better for gas and which would be cooler?
- GMC vs Ford vs Chevrolet vans? I'm currently trying to buy a Van for my construction business needs. There are three brands which come to my mind, GMC, Ford, and Chevrolet. Which do you think it's better, GMC, Ford, or Chevrolet, in Vans category?
- Chevrolet Cruze or Ford Fusion for first car? I'm in the market for a new car. But i'm not sure weather i should go with a 2010-2012 ford fusion or a 2011-2013 chevrolet cruze? I know they arent in the same segment as the cruze is a compact and fusion is midsize. But just for reliability, safty, handling, and fuel economy as i'm a college student.
