Alright, i'm 17 and don't know a lot about cars or trucks. I have an 02 ranger 4.0 V6?

When i first got it, the door ajar light stayed on because of a busted latch. So the bed light would stay on, so i turned the dimmer off so the light would stay off. Then the door ajar light never came on, the speedometer stopped working, the wipers and washers stopped working, the mileage stopped going up, the fog lights did not work, and the auto window did not work. Then the brakes went so i sent it to a shop, they did the brake lines, replaced the wiper motor and replaced 4 blown fuses. Then everything worked, the bells and chimes, the door ajar came back on and stayed on, (because the latch was still busted) i turned the dimmer back into the locked position about a month later, but the bed light did not come on, then i turned and my speedometer and mileage didn't work, auto window, wipers and fluid all did not work again. So i don't know what the problem is. I checked the little 2 prong fuses with a multimeter, but i did not check relays or the bigger fuse looking things. Can someone tell me why my speedometer, wipers and washers, mileage, and door ajar light, bells and chimes and auto window are not working? 2002 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 4.0 V6

You need to check the fuses again. Fix the door latch and quit screwing with the dimmer.

Fix

The shop changed the fuses and everything came to life so why would you think it won't work this time? Well for a while until that short blows them again.

You need to see a doctor i think you might be pregnant

17'ers don't know a lot about anything. That's why they can be sold discontinued models with broken door latches. A for fog lights that's the real heartbreaker for any teen or teen adult. You won't be able to show off on clear nights in a place where fog never happens. As for the odometer, that's great because, like a dead relative, the car will never get old. Clearly there's somewhere that all those quasi-broken components come together. Get a serve department to tell you where and get everything (except the courtesty light) back in working order… Especially those fog lamps. As for the courtesy lights: since you are not prepared to fix or pay for fixing the door latch, your only cheap solution is to wire the courtesy lamp door switch leads together to simulate an always-off courtesy light condition. That will allow full use of the dimmer switch function and allow the bed light to be turned off--by the way, did you know that driving with the bed light on can get you a ticket? That's right, you can't show white lights to the rear while driving forward. (only the reflection off the luminous plate is permittted.) I would start with permanently closing/opening that light switch circuit first of all. Who knows! It might solve all or most of the problems you reported.

  • Why don't American cars last as long as Japanese cars? My family has owned a Ford Taurus and a Nissan Altima of similar model years. Both cars are still running, but the Taurus has very low mileage (it's a 1999 with only 85,000 miles) and the interior is in horrible condition and the plastics Ford put in have been known for breaking. None of this has happened with the Altima, even though it has more miles. Why?
  • I need to put a different engine in my 1982 Ford Ranger Lariat and I don't know what to put in it? It's the biggest engine you could get at the time in those trucks, so it is a v8, I just don't know the exact size. Since the engine is pretty much dead that's in it I was wondering if almost any v8 could go in it's place or if it has any specific engine that has to go it in. Also any good suggestion for a good engine would be great.

  • Isn't it hard to force the EU to buy our cars? Ford announced they'll stop making regular cars, and they don't want our gas guzzling SUVs? Or huge trucks. That's what part of this trade war is about fyi, our products that they don't even want. Interesting, but 10% vs 2.5% isn't exactly earth shattering on cars. Plus that article's talking about OBAMA'S proposed free trade not Trumps.
