99 ford ranger 4.0 manual?
I put the key in the ignition turn it over and nothing no noise nothing… Key acts like there isn't any guts in the steering panel… The key turns freely no resistance. Changed the ignition switch no different check battery, head lights shine bright. Also after the first turn over the interior lights come on and radio… We unplugged the battery is the only way to make the lights and fan in motor to stop. What could this be?
It is probably the switch itself. Not the key part but the swich is located below the steering wheel under the dash. It will be located on the steering column. There's a rod running from the key to the switch. The rod sometimes break. You may have a loose wire on your starter solenoid.
Ignition lock cylinder must be broken off in the gear in the column. Not to worry, if you can turn it, depress the pin from below with a 1/8" punch or similar tool. Pull the cylinder out in the run position with batt cable, (pos.) off. The cable must be off for enough time for the airbag module to power down, PRIOR to any work.
When the cylinder comes out, look in there and see if the end is stuck in the gear. It passes through a hardened washer to enter the gear. The washer has a locator tab, and the gear must be timed to "run" position. If the broken piece is able to come out, you can turn it to run, and put a new cylinder in place. When you insert the new one with the key in and the pin depressed, timed to "run" insert fully, and turn the key off then on then off. Hook up the battery. Wahoo? Or call AAA and drag it to the service department
and get a tech to do it. Because your installation of the switch may not be properly connected or out of range.
The gear and the rack may be out of range, to pull the washer and the gear, you need some very precise, tiny, long, snap ring pliers.
and a tech may opt to pull the column out to achieve better access.
But they are overpaid simpletons so why not just do it yourself?
- Possible engine swap from 3.0 to 4.0 on 1994 Ford Ranger XL 4x4 manual? I'm wondering if I can drop a V6 4.0L engine straight into a V6 3.0L Ford Ranger XL? Both are 1994 ford rangers, everything the same as far as model/year just different size engine… And if not, what would need to be converted? I found a 4.0 for $250 with 0 miles so if its as simple as swapping engines/trannys I'm going to go for it… Thanks for help!

- Gears in my manual transmission Ford Ranger are difficult to shift when the engine is running. Why is this? This usually happens in the morning or if I have not driven in a while usually when its cold out. Once the car gets warmed it gets easier.
