Gas gauge issues 2001 ford ranger 2wd manual 3.0 engine. 12 gallon gas tank?
The gas gauge fluctuates between 3/8 and 7/8 somewhat correlating to the amount of gas in my tank but it isn't accurate. What can i do to try and fix this problem? I'm hoping it isn't the float in the gas tank and would like to cover everything else before i drop my gas tank.

Usually it is the sending unit in the fuel tank that can cause erratic readings. Although it is possible that your car has an anti-slosh module located in the gauge cluster that might have went bad. I know older ford tauruses had those things but I'm not sure about your ranger 100%. The ASM is basically a chip that plugs into the circuit board for the gauge cluster or it might even be part of the circuit board itself. As I said I'm not sure so you would need to look into it.
It is not the float in the tank looks like that is working fine. Slush circuit in the dash cluster most likely.

Alright… My gas gauge sets right at the top of the E when moving, but when i turn the vehicle off, it will read right under the quarter tank line, than right back to E when it gets turned back on. Would this lean more to the sending unit in the tank or a bad gauge? Fuse is good. Figured i would rather ask before trying either option.

Reads front tank only, even when switched to rear tank. I replaced the switch, cost $62. The rear tank is full, Edith. It is full because I can't access the fuel.
