96 Ford Ranger clutch pedal?
From time to time when I get into truck the clutch pedal won't go down. It hasn't happened while driving. After a little time it's back to normal. The truck did sit for a year, could this have anything to do with it? I'm not sure if I should be driving the truck or not. Insight please.
Your clutch is hydraulic. Could be something as simple a a binding on the clutch actuation rod that passes through the firewall to the master cylinder so check that first. After sitting for a year with no use it wouldn't be unlikely to have clutch issues. Probably your best bet is to bleed out all the old fluid as a previous responder said but if that fails there's a couple of other possibilities. First is to change out the clutch master cylinder. They commonly develop a condition called bi-pass where the fluid leaks past the seals instead of being forced down to the slave cylinder. Another possibility is a bad slave cylinder but leave that to last because the drive line and transmission have come down to replace it.
Is this a hydraulic clutch? Sounds like the fluid needs to be flushed from sitting and collecting moisture. Just like a brake master cyl, it has a piston in a bore that could rust, get sticky. Or maybe the slave cyl is bad.
Not sure how to drain the system thou.

- My '83 Ford Ranger clutch won't release? It started by getting hard to shift into third gear when driving. Soon after, it wouldn't release whatsoever. Got new cylinders. Bled the system for three days. Got another set of new cylinders and bench bled it. Didn't help. The pedal feels mushy. Took the tranny out. No spring loose from the Clutch as some mentioned might be the problem. Everything appears to be as it should be. Any ideas?
- My 2008 ford ranger Truck is making a Grinding noise when clutch is engaged/press. What are my options? I attach a youtube video of a different car making the same sound. Is my only option to replace the clutch or can it be adjusted? If anybody could link a repair manual to a 2008 ford ranger that would be awesome. I tried google and torrent sites but had no luck
