Why does the ford mustang v6 have a speed limiter set at 113mph? - 1
Added (1). I've heard that it is b/c of the drive shaft and I've also heard that the previous statement is false
Added (2). also, is there a way to remove this or increase the limit without spending too much?
Limited because the tires are only rated near that mph… And that fast enough for highway use anyway. You can change it top mph with a reprogramer but why?
Pretty much every Ford has an elec speed limiter, as most cars do. The drive shaft being reason is an urban myth.
According to the great book of mustang the v6 is restricted to 112 mph while the GT is limited at 143 mph. According to ford, they made the top speed on the v6 so low due to the softer suspension…
I believe this is not a matter of removal but a reprogramming of the factory ECU. As a teen you think driving over 120 is cool but it is in reality deadly serious.
The driveshaft that the 2011-2014 V6 Mustang have becomes dangerously unbalanced at speeds over 120 MPH. Having the driveshaft fail at such high speeds is dangerous. It has nothing to do with the speed rating of the tires as you can get Z-rated tires from the factory with the V6 Performance package.
You can get around this by this by obtaining a one-piece driveshaft like the GT/Boss 302/GT500's have and using a tuner to disable the speed limiter.
- Is there the way to reprogram or remove rev limiter? I have 2001 Ford Taurus ses and mines has rev limiter 5k rpm, and try to set to 6500 rpm would be perfect for accelerating or even more.
- Can I make my five speed to a six speed? I have a 91 Ford Ranger 3.0L V6 five speed. I know it's not an idea vehicle to fix but I enjoy the vehicle much. I would to fix it up, I know to give it a better performance that I have to make a lot of things custom. One thing I'd like to do is change it to a six speed, would it be wise to do so and is it possible? I'm hoping for a little bit gas mileage doing this and maybe faster acceleration?
- Should I trade my 1995 ford mustang v6 5 speed for a 3000gt v6 five speed? Mustang runs and drives, 3000gt runs and drives but need ball joint and a arm. Should I trade if he throws money in for trade?
- Can't set Ford Mustang Radio to even decimal such as 101.4? I'm not able to set my radio to an even decimal, in other words the decimal place jumps odd numbers not even numbers. When i use the seek button or dial it just from 101.1 to 101.3 to 101.5… But can set the last decimal to even numbers. 101.2, 101.4 or 101.6
