What tramsmisson will fit a 408?
What automatic trans will fit a ford 408 stroker engine? Can i use a trans off a 302 mustang engine?
If it is a 351W or 351C based engine you can. Not a stroked 351M, which would just be a 400. They all have 4 inch bores and a 4 inch stroke, so with a.060 overbore they are all 408 ci.
Depends on exactly which block was stroked to get to 408. 351 Windsor, 351 Cleveland, 390 FE, all could be done to 408.
The small-block bolt pattern will be 6-5/8" center-to-center across the top two bolt holes. You could use an FMX, an AOD, a small-block C6 (best option, given the torque numbers from a 408) or a C4 (but I'd get a 6 gear Low planetary for the trans). I'm pretty sure your 408 is gonna be a 351W based. If the top two bolt holes are 9-1/8th" then your looking at a 351M/400/429/460 bellhousing pattern.
You will need to pay extra attention to the flexplate imbalance factor (28 or 50 oz.). As an aftermarket kit, the engine may be neutral balanced. You DEFINTIELY need to make sure you get the right one here to avoi a broken crankshaft.
