What is Automatic 6 Speed Transmission?

I was at the dealership today and i wanted to buy a ford mustang a 2008 and a 2010 they both said autonomic 6 speed but didn't have P, D, R N they had numbers on the like a manual and three pedals.

Another mustang also said automatic 6 speed but it has 2 pedals and P D R N S? Like what's with that i don't know how to drive a manual car. It says automatic why doesn't it look like an automatic?

But why did those 2 have 3 pedals and stuff and the other one looks like a normal automatic? I don't get it.

So if i bought the ones with the 3 pedals and the numbers on the clutch would i have to drive it manually? Or is manual an option or something?

The available six-speed SelectShift® Automatic transmission allows you to override automatic operation and manually change gears if you would like. To use SelectShift, move the gearshift lever into position S. Now you can use the thumb toggle on the side of your gearshift lever to select gears. The information display in the instrument cluster will show the selected gear you are currently in.

You can read more about this in the Owner Manual: http://owner.ford.com/...el=Mustang

If you saw the one with a stick labled 1,3,5, R on top and 2,4,6 on the bottom, its a special kind of automatic. The way you drive this is to fully press the "3rd" pedel on the floor change the shift yo "1" and then release the 3rd pedel while slightly pressing the accelerator. This way car starts rolling. Press the "3rd" pedel again and move the stick to "2" position. Now you can gain some speed!

If it has a clutch to step on with your foot, then it is a manual, And the ' automatic 6 speed ' is a typo.

Wow okay so the car is manual… I'm going to tell them to change that to manual transmission then… They had me so confused today.
