Need to know what type of transmission I need for my 2007 ford Fusion S Automatic 2.3L vin 3FAHP06Z07R246616?
I need to replace the transmission due to 3rd gear went out but not sure what transmission I need. Was told that it might cost $3000 to repair. Any input will be appreciated.
Find the model # on trans., will be on a tag or stamped behind bellhousing. Then, shop around.
The smart thing to do is a transmission overhaul. That's what the $3000 will cover. A reputable tranny shop won't just fix the 3rd gear. You'll be back in a few months with another problem blaming them for not fixing the original problem. Whether you buy a new transmission or have your current one overhauled, the cost will be about the same.
Your car is awfully young to need a transmission already unless you are pushing 150k miles or more or if you did a lot of heavy towing.
You might want to check to see if your transmission is part of a recall program.
$3000 sounds about right. The transmission shop will know what to replace it with.
$3000 sounds about right if you are paying for labor. My son's buddy had his Chevy tranny rebuilt for $800 and the case was even cracked. But the two of them replaced it. It took a couple of hours to pull the old one and install the rebuilt one. My son has to go get a rebuilt tranny for his vehicle in IA. It is $800 too, but it has has some heavy duty parts in it. He has already scheduled with me to help him replace it.
