Is a mustang ok for a teen to drive in winter?
I've found a 2006 Ford Mustang GT Deluxe that I really like. I've read that mustangs do ok in the winter with snow tires and added weight. I live in the northeast where the winters can have heavy snow. I've driven in the snow before but with a parent. I just turned 16 in early July. If I drive carefully, add weight and snow tires, could I manage with a mustang in the winter?
You can also change to snow tires in the winter that greatly help but can be costly.
However, you seem to have a pretty good head on you & you will do just fine!
And rwd that doesn't have clearance issues will be fine in winter with good tires and some ballast, and if you don't drive like a f**kin idiot. I live in portsmouth, see plenty of rwd vehicles in the snow. Hell, my chevy work van is rwd without winter tires and it's fine.
Moral of the story here, regardless of ballast, put some winter tires on, and don't drive like an artard
That's not a good idea. Snow tires help, but they are not magic. A RWD car is not good in the snow. A RWD car with power is worse in the snow. With snow tires and weight in your trunk, you won't get stuck every second, but it will not handle well. Your steering will be reduced, and when you break traction, you'll likely spin.
A car like that is also a bad idea for a 16 year old.
A lot of people (especially 16 year olds who fantasize about Mustangs) like to believe that skill will get them through. "Don't drive like an idiot and you'll be fine" really means "I believe that I'm incredibly skilled and therefore invincible."
Could you drive it in heavy snow? Yes. Should you? No. Even with years of experience driving in the snow, a powerful RWD car is a bad idea.
If you're still determined, check out what your insurance will cost before you buy it.
- Pickup traction: what should I put in the bed for winter? 1992 Ford Ranger. I live in an apartment so firewood is out. Something which will not be stolen. Bags of road salt in waterproof bins? Southern Ohio and winter may be nasty; need weight behind rear axle. Looking for ideas taking up only width of bed but less than 2' front to back since I want to use most of the bed for day to day stuff. Rocks? Quarries around here but want something multi-purpose.
- Can a ford ranger handle winter? Its small. I'm wondering if it will be powerful in the winter like a regular truck? Or should I just get a different truck?
- Used sport car and good for the winter for under 15k? I like ford Mustang and Camaro cars but its RWD and not good for the snow, so is there any other options?
- My question is about storing a car outside in the winter for a few months? I live in northern Minnesota but I always go south for the winter for about 3 or 4 months. I've got a 2001 Ford Mustang V6 with a hundred and thirty-five thousand miles. I'm planning on leaving it in a friend's backyard for the winter. Is there any precautions I can take in order for the vehicle to not be dead upon my return. I heard turning it on and letting it run once a week will help?
