My question is about storing a car outside in the winter for a few months?
I live in northern Minnesota but I always go south for the winter for about 3 or 4 months. I've got a 2001 Ford Mustang V6 with a hundred and thirty-five thousand miles. I'm planning on leaving it in a friend's backyard for the winter. Is there any precautions I can take in order for the vehicle to not be dead upon my return. I heard turning it on and letting it run once a week will help?
Add 8 ounces of STA-Bil Fuel Stabalizer to the fuel tank and then fill it up. Purchase a battery tender and leave it connected to the battery while in storage. If you can't connect it where it is sitting remove the battery and store it inside with the battery tender connected. Plug the tail pipes with steel wool to prevent critters from crawling into the exhaust system. Place a piece of wood or concrete on the ground in front of each wheel and drive the car on them. Make sure all windows are roiled up. No need to start the car for that short of a period of storage.
Starting it periodically is not as good as actually operating it one hour per month but not what you asked about. Minnesota, so it's COLD in the winter. Remove the battery and store it in the basement, but not on the concrete floor. Before you leave it, buy some Sta-bil fuel stabilizer and put it (follow directions for proper amount) in your tank. Make a run to the local convenience market to make sure the Sta-bil gets through the fuel system. Verify that your anti-freeze is up to the task too. The worst is if your anti-freeze is over 3 to four years old and no longer effective. Empty the windshield washer fluid container or make sure it has the antifreeze kind so your plastic lines do not burst from freezing. You could change your oil before parking it to. When you get back you won't be able to just jump in and go, you'll need to put the battery back in and then go.
- What can go wrong from a car sitting a few months? My car has been sitting in my grandparent's carport for a few months. I tried to jump start it today, the lights turned on and all the electronic stuff worked but it wouldn't start. Do I just need to try again or could it be the starter or something? It's a 1998 Ford Taurus.
- Used sport car and good for the winter for under 15k? I like ford Mustang and Camaro cars but its RWD and not good for the snow, so is there any other options?
- I have been locked outside my Ford Figo with the key still inside! Please help me unlock the car? So, I was on my way to a place and I had to get out of my car to enter a McDonald s. I found that I had been locked out of my car with the key still inside! Please help me because I need to get somewhere As soon as possible.
- How to do months payments on a car? Am 16 and i work and get about $700-$900 a month and i wanted to buy a 2015 Dodge Ram and do payments on it. And my dad will put his name on the truck but i pay the payments and he's already doing payments for his 2013 ford. I just wanted to ask what happens if i got fired from my job and couldn't buy the payments anymore? Can i turn the truck back in? Or does it mess up my dad's credit? Please tell me what happens. And by the way am thinking to put $1000-$3000 down payment.
