Ford Mustang takes awhile to start?

I have a 2006 Ford Mustang v6 with 56,000 miles on it. Whenever I go to start it it takes longer then most cars to start about 3 seconds (3 Mississippi). But when the car is warm after driving it for awhile then stopping to turn it off then waiting a few minutes (EX: when I get gas I turn it off for about 3 minutes) then go to turn it back on and it like misfires is the only way to describe it. But I keep the key twisted and eventually it starts. Is it the fuel filter, the battery or alternator or something else? It sounds horrible when it misfires. (It may not actually be misfiring that's just the only word I can use to describe how it sounds.

It sounds like the fuel filter is clogged and needs to be replaced. They are cheap and easy to install. Try that first.

If that doesn't work then…

Turn the key to the RUN position and wait about 3-5 seconds… Then try STARTING. You're fuel pump may be going out and it's having a hard time pressurizing the fuel line. Giving the fuel pump time to build up pressure and burp the air in the line may fix the problem.
