Can a PFC Marine buy a ford mustang?
I'm having thoughts of buying a ford mustang 2014 gt500 shelby when I graduate boot camp, but the question is can a E-2 PFC afford it? And is it a good idea? Wise people who had a lot of experiences… Please share your thoughts.
Not a good idea. Suppose you are transferred overseas. How are you going to get your car there?
When purchasing a new vehicle you need to inform your mentor who would then inform your SNCO. They will do a budget with your LES and figure out if you can actually afford the car. Do not buy it without informing your chain of command. And honestly you should not even buy 2014 Mustang buy something that is affordable. I have had multiple Marines buy expensive cars without informing me which end up getting repossessed because they can't afford the payments. You should also bring an older and more experienced Marine with you when buying the car. Bring your mentor and if you do not think he is fit to guide you in the right direction request to bring someone who has more knowledge. Also for your sake you are already a boot, buying a mustang will make it so much worse as it is a BOOTMOBILE.
Simply put… Bad idea. Lots of promising Careers have been stopped because of bad credit… And bad choices… This could be both. Wait until you Earn some Rank, and have a few years under your Cover. John K is correct… But even if that system says you can, it does not mean you should… Just wait.
You can buy anything a bank will give you a loan for but is it a wise idea to buy a 40,000 to 60,000 dollar car on E-2 pay? Nope.
You'll be lucky to find one for $50K, you'll be luck to get a monthly loan payment of $1,000. Now an E-2 with less than 2 years service makes $1,733.88 a month, before taxes. Figure you insurance rates as an 18 year old with that kind of car will be a minimum of $200/month.
The only thing I can recommend is that you grab a parking space where you can watch your car from your barracks window, because you won't have money for gas, or to go out and do anything.
You will get paid like 800 a month after taxes. So no, you can't afford it.
Stupid Privates are stupid
I would buy it used, there's dealerships that are fly by night and will diappear after you bought the car and need repairs. Also once you get the car, go to the bank or credit union on post and have them take on your loan to lower the interest rate so they don't earn too much money off of you as well.
Most bases/posts have a "Lemon Lot" usually near the front gate. You should be able to get a decent car there…
Absolutely not. You are talking about a nearly $60K car (taken from Ford's website). That equates to over $1,000 a month car payment. And you haven't even factored in insurance yet.
- Why would people buy a Toyota Hilux when they can buy a better, superior Ford Ranger? I owned a 2010 Toyota Camry and it broke down in 2011 upon reaching 0.6k miles. I treated it like a baby and it failed and disappointed me. My friend also owned a 2008 Toyota Tacoma and it failed to start in 2009 upon reaching 8k miles. And the mechanic said it was impossible to fix. However, my uncle has a 1965 Ford Falcon with over 750k miles on its clock and it still runs like new and he never even changed its oil since he bought it.
- Why would people buy a Toyota Hilux when they can buy a better, Chevrolet Colorado? Or even better and superior, Ford Ranger. My cousin is going to buy a pick-up truck next month and it would be a Toyota Hilux. How do I convince him that the Hilux is not reliable?
- Where can I buy stock 1987-1993 Ford Mustang LX hubcaps? I have a 1990 Ford Mustang LX and it currently had no hubcaps on it, can someone please post a link where I can buy some. They must be stock LX hubcaps and it doesn't matter if I have to buy them in a set, or individually. The more sources, the better. Best question gets points, thanks for looking!
