How to tell if a vehicle's odometer has rolled over?
I'm about to check out a 1996 Ford E150 conversion van with less than 50k miles being sold by a private owner. Pictures reveal the exterior to be in excellent condition but the interior is a little dinged up. If everything is on the up and up this vehicle was driven an average of less than 3k miles per year. That alone makes me a little suspicious. Now I know what a good magic wand trick at the local carwash can do for the engine compartment, etc. But I would like something a little more scientific for reassurance that I'm not getting bent over.
No. This is why older vehicles are exempt from odometer statements.
Get a Carfax report and that should give you some helpful information. In the report, they indicate if they have a reason to suspect the odometer has been tampered with.
- What brand of vehicle last a little over 200,000 miles? I'm looking to buy a vehicle and I would like to know what brand of vehicle last over 200,000 miless (nissan, chevy, ford) etc. Also I would like to know how many miles is too high when looking to buy a used vehicle.
- How to add miles to a digital odometer? I have a 2004 Ford Taurus. I had to get my whole dashboard replaced because the motor on the needle of the temperature guage broke. My miles are off by a lot now, and I was wondering if there was a way I could put it back to the correct miles. My car was at 189,000 miles and now it is at 133,000 miles.
- Can Ford tell if a car has been clocked? The latest Fords, (fiesta Focus and Mondeo) can apparent;y be clocked quite easily. However, I think the mileage is stored in the ECU so isn't it possible for Ford to see the correct mileage of a car, despite the oddometer showing a different mileage?
- How to tell if the engine has been bullet proofed? I want a 2003 Ford Excusion with the PowerStroke diesel. I read that when they are in the range of 150,000-200,000 miles, that they break and require about $10,000-$12,000 in engine repairs. How can I tell just by looking at a picture? I'm currently looking online. I live in the North and I wanted to buy one in Florida. So the 7.3L is the best? What's the actual city fuel economy.
