How to fix my leaking radiator in my 2000 ford taures without replacement?
I have a bad leak right under where my hose connects to my radiator on the battery side of the car. I have to constantly put water in it just to get to and from work. How can I fix it without replacement I can't afford a replacement radiator. And my car is also making a weird slap knock noise right down below the radio and air controls.it only makes the noise every once in a while but its loud and last about ten to twenty mins? What can I do without taking it to a shop I can't afford right now?
Are you sure it isn't just the hose that went bad?
You can buy a metallised epoxy putty to repair radiators. It's a two pack item and can be applied to damp surfaces. If you can clean up and dry the leaking area it will work better of course. All major supermarkets or DIY stores will sell it. Plastic Padding is one brand.
You can fix the radiator with epoxy putty (eBay is probably cheaper than your local hardware shop). Drain down the coolant (it sounds as though it can do that on its own!) and take out the radiator. Let the area around the split dry thoroughly and remove any rust or flaking paint. Now knead the putty according to the instructions on the pack and force it into the split, leaving a smooth lump on the outside. If you can get at the back of the split through the hose connector, smooth that down as well. Now leave it at least 12 hours before connecting it all back together.
I don't know about the slapping noise. Is there something loose catching the fan?
Call a radiator shop in your area and see if the do free pressure testing on radiators, if they do and get it checked out it may not be the radiator but the hose. If the hose is bad replace/tighten or repair the radiator as suggested and start putting money aside for a new radiator. Check out radiators.com they have pretty good prices
If the top plastic part of the radiator is leaking there's nothing that's going to seal it. Sounds like you've been running straight water in your cooling system. That's going to ruin the water pump seal and rust up the inside of your motor. All that rust will plug up the heater core and radiator. Saving the $120 a new radiator would cost is now going to turn into a very expensive repair bill. I wouldn't be surprised if you're overheating the motor and you sure as hell are going to learn the hard way!
You have a 2000 Taurus. If you want to drive it then prepare to have money to fix it or the problems will compound and the car will implode. Everyone wants to but you can't drive old cars for free. Use the money that you don't pay for car payments and fix it right.
- Why did my 2000 Ford Windstar just blow all off the tranny fluid out. But now its not leaking anything? I drove it with a trailer attached all day then I dropped the trailer off and drove home. When a was turning on to my street the car violently shuck but kept going I pulled into my drive way and looked under my car and big puddle of tranny fluid everywhere. So I filled it up this morning and drove it 75 miles and when I got back I was still full on fluid and nothing was leaking. So WHY?
- How to fix a leaky rack and pinions without replacing it? I have a 96 Ford Taurus GL the rack and pinion is leaking fluid I don't have the money to replace the rack and pinion so where would the leak possibly be coming from and is it possible to fix it without replacing the rack and pinion
- My 2000 Ford Ranger 6 Cyl 3.0 L has been overheating. Pretty sure its a radiator problem but odd symptoms? Truck exhaust will puff moderate amount of white smoke (every now n again) on cold startup but will subside after engine warming up.Truck "Was" overheating until i put more coolant in but realised cap was steaming along with coolant reservoir (reservoir was also bubbling). So i bought a new radiator cap. I got a safety cap and after installing I drove a little and engine temp goes to red really fast. What could it be? Thermostat? Water pump? Blown head gasket?
- Ford mustang 2001 v6 3.8L code p1285, overheating, radiator leaking? My car has the p1285 code. Radiator pukes from the bottom. I refill radiator and temp is stable but overheats as the water drains from radiator. -I replaced thermostat -belt is good, running -no leaking from hoses -fan works -no leaks from anywhere else. -AC works What could it be? Bad sensor?
