How to adjust the hot lash valve clearance on a 302 ford engine with solid lifters?

How do you adjust the hot lash valve clearance on a 302 ford engine with solid lifters?

No need to do hot lash. Cold lash is much more consistent as things are not moving around/contracting.
Cast iron block and alum head hot lash clearance will grow by.005 from cold lash. Set it cold.
Cast iron head and block, they don't change at all to they change by.002 either way.

Find the firing order get a manual to find firing order to set valves is a slow go this is all done barring engine by hand good luck doing this job

Engine at operating temp. Pull valve covers, have feeler gauge set to desired clearance (.017" or whatever is called for) Find the cylinders where cam is not rolling up/down, feeler gauge between rocker tip and valve stem, adjust rockers to SLIGHT drag on feeler gauge, pushrod still spins by finger. Tighten lock-nut and re-check. As you roll engine, you can see rockers moving as cam operates, as soon as valves close plus an eighth of a turn on crank, you can adjust that set, intake and exhaust. Put small dab of white paint on each one as you adjust it to help keep track. When done, run it and re-check. You'll have to do this every few thousand miles, but LOVE the sound of a solid-lifter engine. Rev on!

You need some numbers, how many thousandths? Make sure the valve is closed, insert feeler gauge, tighten rocker arm until gauge "just slides" through. Move on to next valve.
