I've had my very first fender bender and I believe they're trying to overcharge me?

I was pulling into work the other morning and just happened to catch my bumper on an employees back door of her mom's ford fusion. 2016 model I believe. I had a lapse in my insurance but is back on now, I've only got liability so I'm not sure if they will help at all or not. But she told me today that I would have to replace her door for $1700. That sounds ridiculous to me. There's all debt maybe the size of a grapefruit and a few scratches. The door opens and closes fine, we even checked the inside panel and it was in prestine condition. Can they not have the dent popped out and the scratches painted over? Why would I have to replace the whole door? What will happen if i refuse to replace it, due to mainly I can't afford it. It would take me months to pay it off. Can they be told to have an estimate from somewhere else, other than the dealership? I really need help. Thanks! I ve had my very first fender bender and I believe they re trying to overcharge me - 1

Through your carelessness, lack of skills or stupidity you have destroyed someone else's property. You are required to pay to have it RESTORED TO EXACTLY THE SAME CONDITION it was before you destroyed it. That doesn't mean painting over scratches… Or not fixing it at all because the door still opens and closes and is "pristine inside". What a load.

Speaking of loads - I see in a previous of your posts that you weigh 250 pounds - - - - maybe if you lost some of that tonnage you would be able to move a little quicker and not go about bashing into other peoples cars.

BTW: just from the little pic, we can see that the rear-fender "dogleg" and the rocker panel bright trim are also damaged… It's gonna cost $$$ to fix… But you can enjoy the satisfaction of knowing that the car will suffer from premature rust-out as well as lower value from insurance records of the event.

And, it didn't "just happen"… Am guessing that you were texting, fixing your hair, make-up, stuffing pastries into your face, or choosing that moment to cleanout the glovebox and your purse and everything else dingbats do while driving.

Ask her to show you the estimate. You can ask her to get more estimates from other shops, but she has a right to take the car to any place of her choosing.

As for fixing the dents, it may cost more to fix the door than to replace it. Also, there's probably damage to the body, too.

That's a low price - I would have expected over $3000. Doors are expensive to replace and often more expensive to repair. You're getting off cheap.

The insurance will only pay damages if it was in effect when the accident happened, you will need to pay this on your own.

1700 for a door is cheap. You suck at driving so ask about a payment plan

Welcome to the greedy world!

You are now involved with people who smell money!

My advice is learn how to drive.

Their car is almost new. They don't want a patched up, repaired car with bondo on it. They want it as new. That's fair.
