Is it possible for an SUV to have better fuel economy than a (5 year old) Sedan?
2 friends of mine: One owns a Lexus LX 570 SUV (not sure if it's a 2018 or 2019 model) and claims that it can go about 700km on a full tank.
The other guy owns a Ford Fusion 2014 (Sedan) and says that his can go about 470km on a full tank. (apparently, It used to go about 600km when it was new).
How could this even be possible?
Simple. The Lexus has a 24.6 gal tank, the Ford 16.5 gal. Assuming they're using the same kind of gal (those metrically impaired units are a mystery to me), that alone would be sufficient to explain that difference.
Yes but the fact that your friends suv can travel further on a full tank does not mean it is more efficient than the sedan. It could have a fuel tank twice the size of the sedan.
The estimated fuel economy for the Lexus is 13/17mpg Fusion 25/37mpg
The Lexus could be a hybrid.
The Toyota's tank would hold more fuel one would assume 700k's is a pretty ordinary range most Toyota's have 2 tanks that will do over a 1000k's out of both of them some of the diesels closer to 2000
Lexus is built by Toyota. So it doesn't surprise me that it is more fuel efficient than the Ford which is crude by comparison.
What's the volume of each fuel tank? I'm guessing the Lexus LX570 ( which, even by SUV standards, is not a fuel efficient vehicle ) has a much larger fuel tank and that, combined with careful driving, gives it a longer range between fill-ups
Different cars have different size fuel tanks, so different distances on a tank of fuel.
Not all fuel tanks are the same size, Skippy. My Ram pickup can go 500+ miles on a tank of fuel, but it's a 28 gallon tank! My wife's Subaru can go the same 500 miles, but it only has an 18 gallon fuel tank.
My 2018 Subaru Crosstrek will go about 800km on a tank.
- Why is my fuel economy so bad? I have a 2000 ford falcon forte petrol engine, and it's fuel is still terrible, I've had a fuel service done, a fuel treatment done, even an transmission service done. The transmission service did a hell of a difference, but it's still not fixed. The diagnostic scan came up empty, ruling out any electrical problem. What can it be?
- Will a new exhaust actually increase horsepower and fuel economy in my 2001 ford ranger 4.0? I'm looking at the flowmaster 40 series duel exhaust here: http://www.truckexhaustkits.com/ranger-96-04-dual-exhaust-2-25-ma-pipe-flowmaster-40/
- When see Lexus.does this translate as I'm better than you.cause I'm so smarter than you? I mean "Chevy" to me says." I'm dumb and proud to be an American"? What about Ford? WHAT ABOUT JUST "TOYOTA"? (I'm SMARTER THAN ALL OF YOU!"? BUT HOW TRUE?)
- Is it possible to swap my roadmaster sedan axle with one from a impala ss? Ok so my rear trailing arms broke and i'm doing an engine swap from a lt1 to an ls based motor so i figured i might as well start buying parts to rebuild a stronger rear with bigger gears while getting disk brakes instead of the drums i can get an impala rear for a little over 100 is it possible that it will bolt right in or what changes will i need to make i was alson thinking of a ford 9 in because of its strength
