Air conditioning problems in my 2012 Ford Fusion

Okay so I'm 17, I've had my car a year and it's a 2012 Fusion. It's a great car we bought it brand new then they Gave it to me. The A/C stopped working and I've done some research and what not. The popular thing seems to be something called an A/C evaporator temp sensor or some ****. I was going to get some opinions from owners or even mechanics about the cost to fix it. I want my AC back due to summer about to spool up soon. How much did it cost and is it something you can fix yourself?

Beware… Darkness ahead. I do nearly all my own auto maintenance and repair, but I take A/C problems to a professional. It is very easy to turn an affordable repair into a disaster you simply can't afford to fix by following guesses.

I have a reputation, personally and at work, for being able to fix things that conventional wisdom says can't be fixed in the field (I once replaced a UHF power transistor with an acetylene torch!) but I know better than to mess with the refrigerant loop. Thar be monsters for the untrained and ill-equipped. That means you and me.

There are many potential problems here, some easily resolved and others not. Beware those who simply say put new gas in it, that seldom works for long unless you really know what you re doing. I d agree, take it a car aircon specialist and ask how much it would cost to have it looked at. Some might do this for free, if they hope to get the actual repair work.

HI so something that surprise you is a FORD dealer all not only have the right part. They will know how long it takes to fit it and will be the best price as well. Anything else will always be more expensive if not immediately but in most cases something else will go wrong.

Take it to an independent specialist.
DON't take it to a Ford dealer and DON't mess with it yourself.
You never know… It may just need re-gassing.

There are five major components to an a.c. Unit- evaporation coils, condensation coils, compressor, evaporation valve, and dryer. If your condensation coils are filled with debris, bugs, dirt, etc., it may just need to be cleaned. You can check the pressure on your system. If its normal, it could be a few things1) a bad a.c. Compressor clutch 2) a bad evaporation valve. If it is the clutch, replace it. If it is not the clutch or it has low or no pressure, you have to have a service tech pump the refrigerant out and replace the broken part.

It could be the throttle body failing to adjust under load. Try having the throttle body cleaned. If that doesn't work, have a professional evac the system and check for leaks. Don't mess with it yourself. It's dangerous and illegal.
