Fuel pump or relay? Or is it a misdirection of symptoms being bad connections battery terminals/ground?
95 Ford contour 4 cylinder. Wasn't running when I bought it. The seller assumed starter solenoid. That it died at a stop sign and wouldn't start Back up. I bought knowing that didn't sound right.a starter wouldn't cause a car to die. I suspected battery terminals or something. My assumptions were right. Corroded battery terminals. Messed with it a bit to get good enough connection to start it. It was hard. Got the car home and the terminals were only fixed temporarily for the short drive. Put terminals together hopefully avoiding hole new cables. Started the car. Great! Took two-hours with the terminals. Let the car run for a min to charge. 20 min came back and car wouldn't start. Ignition cranks but won't kick over (Take note: key was off saw SPEEDOMETER GAGE MOVE) so I'm thinking def that Dam connection again. After turning key back and forth 5 times thinking resset computer system and gas pedal to the floor cranking key for a long 15 seconds it started.Well I drive it around the block and I notice it seems to be losing power to the gas. Not quite stalling but I had to push on the gas to the floor a couple times. Get the car back home. And of coarse won't start again. And I don't want to drag the ignition like that again til I have a solution. So now I'm thinking fuel pump/relay (fuel filter is ruled out sellers recently changed It I see box in trunk) but I'm wondering over the dash Gage moving power off that it could be giving me false leads to the underlying problem?

Sounds as though its fuelling issue though electrics are problematic here and likely part of issue. Poor terminal connections will of course give issues as voltage drop will cause problems with starting/running. Would have suggested new fuel filter but assuming it ha been replaced? Ideally we need a service on car and a diagnostic check run. This will throw up fault codes. Going us much better idea of are we need to look at or components. We can also swap or replace the relay plus do check terminals on starter for corrosion/loose.
the cutting out at lights is often symptom of sticking idle speed control valve. This will also affect starting/running. Speedo gauge flicker is a sign of connection /voltage issues. We may be best investing a few bucks here with new battery. Car service ( gives us a datum point and new filters etc ) and clear fault codes shown on diagnostic check. Then after running/driving for a while to normal engine temps a recheck? ( if needed) diagnostic will show up any area of issues. A good garage ought to fix easily. GamerGirl 99 'oj#oik Give that dead battery a full charge before trying anything else.
While it's charging, check the connections again - both ends.
Your symptoms are exactly those of a discharged battery.
Use a charger, not the car's alternator. Bridge out the terminals the rely switches for now and see if it runs if it does its the relay or the wiring leading to it

- Would a faulty water pump, on a 04 Ford Freestar, cause the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor to go bad? There's definite spray pattern on the underside of the hood from the water pump going. Could antifreeze have gotten into the fuel rail sensor and caused it to fault? Is it possible to clean the Fuel Rail Pressure sensor or any corrosion? Part is EXPENSIVE.
- When a Ford Coil Pack goes bad, does it do so all at once or does it show symptoms first? 96 Windstar is not firing, did not run rough, never hesitated, always silky smooth idle & acceleration, good MPG, no smoke, no rotten egg smell… This morning (warm weather) it will not fire.
- Bad fuel pump or bad Mass Airflow sensor? My truck us having very hard time starting up. It cranks over, putters and shakes really bad then dies. Once it finally becomes drivable, it almost stalls when accelerating from a stop or turning right Could this be a bad fuel pump, bad MAF, or another failing part? Truck is a 2006 ford ranger
- What are the symptoms of a dead AT transmission pump? I'm looking at an older Ford Explorer on craigslist. The owner claims that they were told that the trans pump is bad. Basically, my question is if the pump goes bad, does the entire transmission go? Is the car totally un-driveable or is it bad for the transmission to drive?
