What are the symptoms of a dead AT transmission pump?
I'm looking at an older Ford Explorer on craigslist. The owner claims that they were told that the trans pump is bad. Basically, my question is if the pump goes bad, does the entire transmission go? Is the car totally un-driveable or is it bad for the transmission to drive?

If the pump is bad the rest of the transmission is likely to be tired too. Repairing it will require a rebuilt transmission.
the worst that will happen is the truck won't move. This could happen at a really bad time. We all know murphy was an optimist.
The work to pull the tranny and throw " just a pump" in would be the same as spinning a roulette wheel.
You need a different tranny.
If pump bad the car/truck won't move. Most times low fluid pressure before the pump goes means the transmission will also have to be rebuilt. So expect it to be rebuilt for about 2,500 bucks
- When a Ford Coil Pack goes bad, does it do so all at once or does it show symptoms first? 96 Windstar is not firing, did not run rough, never hesitated, always silky smooth idle & acceleration, good MPG, no smoke, no rotten egg smell… This morning (warm weather) it will not fire.
- My 2000 Ford Ranger 6 Cyl 3.0 L has been overheating. Pretty sure its a radiator problem but odd symptoms? Truck exhaust will puff moderate amount of white smoke (every now n again) on cold startup but will subside after engine warming up.Truck "Was" overheating until i put more coolant in but realised cap was steaming along with coolant reservoir (reservoir was also bubbling). So i bought a new radiator cap. I got a safety cap and after installing I drove a little and engine temp goes to red really fast. What could it be? Thermostat? Water pump? Blown head gasket?
- On my 2000 ford mustang why does my air pump (smog pump) only blow air for 5 seconds after start up? Is that normal? I have p0411 secondary air injection system insufficient flow detected. I've checked the hose that comes out from the pump, it's blowing air but I believe it should blow air for much longer than 5 seconds on start up.
- When changing the power steering pump on a KA (54) can you use PTFE tape to seal the pressure line from pump? I have changed the power steering pump on a ford KA (54) and when removing the pressure line from the pump there was some kind of seal on it but I don't know what it was, so I was hopping that PTFE tape would do the same job at sealing the thread. Any help please. Andy.
