When a Ford Coil Pack goes bad, does it do so all at once or does it show symptoms first?
96 Windstar is not firing, did not run rough, never hesitated, always silky smooth idle & acceleration, good MPG, no smoke, no rotten egg smell… This morning (warm weather) it will not fire.
Not ON or OFF, they slowly develop tiny cracks from the continuous hot-cold cycling. Humidity slowly seeps into them, shorting-out a part of the coil. As things warm-up, the humidity evaporates, & the coils work okay. Next day, the cycle starts all over again, except that the cracks are now a tiny bit bigger. Would suggest to replace them at around 100,000 miles. If you want to keep the van forever, see if ACCEL makes a pack to fit your van - I get mine from. JEGS.com…
Listen for the fuel injectors to click while cranking the motor over. If you have no spark and the injectors are not working you probably have a bad crankshaft sensor.
Its hard to describe when a coil pack goes south as in some cases hard starting would be a symptom. If the coil pack failed outright you could have your windstar towed to a service facility while making a service order for not firing as all it does is turn over.
Hi No it can go all at once without any warning.
- Is putting too many miles on my car at once bad? I have a 2001 ford mustang. It currently has 104,000 miles. I bought it at 93,000 miles in early 2013. I'm taking trip on Sunday and from here to there and back it will be around 174 miles. I maintain the car, change it's oil all of that.
- My ford focus has just had a new coil pack fitted, but the engine management light is still on? The garage has said that it could be the auto sensor… What is this? Will it be an expensive fix? Advice please!
- Do I have a bad ignition coil? Today I was driving on the highway at 70 mph and all of a sudden the accelerator was having no effect. I kept pushing and releasing it trying to get it to catch, but it finally died on the side of the road. I started the car right back up and it made it home fine(several miles). I have a 2000 Ford Focus and I'm hoping this is a coil going bad and not a fuel pump. First time it's happened. What do you think?
- Will this coil pack work with my ford fiest? I have a ford fiesta 2003 1.25 74bhp 55kw, the part number for the coil pack is 988f-12029-ac. I have been looking on ebay and there seem to be a few variations of this part ie 988F-12029-AD, 988F-12029-AC and 988F-12029-AB, what are the differences between these? I have brought a part not long ago and it didn't fit, so really i don't want to make this mistake again. Can anyone help me out?
