Ford mechanical AOD transmission problems?

I have a 69 Lincoln with a ford 460. Recently, we purchased a tranny conversion kit for the 460 to take a ford mechanical aod transmission instead of its original c6 tranny. It worked fine for a while, the overdrive functioned properly after it was installed, but now when it is supposed to kick into overdrive, it slips into a lower gear instead going into its overdrive. In addition to my problems, the tranny also started leaking (but there's still safe levels of fluid in the tranny). The leak appears to be from the lines on the tranny, and maybe also from the bell housing. With this, I would expect the front seal may be blown. Could there be any problem I should consider for my situation? Any way to fix this? If it is worth noting, earlier this day, I heard a pop like a backfire from the engine, but i don't know if it was the tranny.

Hi so what are you so surprised after all it is a cobbled together car which will have loads of problems.

Unless they AOD has been seriously beefed up. It's not going to last long behind a 460. The biggest engine it was ever used with from the factory was the 302. The torque from that 460 will make short work of a stock AOD.

  • What ford trucks/cars had the aod trannsmittion? I was going to go look at the junk yard for a aod trannsmition but then i dint know how to find it. what cars/trucks have that trannsmition or how can i identifi it. • Shifting problems and intake problems? I drive a 1997 ford ranger with a 2.3l automatic. I have recently experienced a hard shifting in my truck even when I'm not on the gas it has problems shifting. And I cleaned my air filter and filter hose that goes to my throttle body and there was transmission fluid in the hose. What can be causing this and how can I fix it or how much will it cost roughly?
  • Physics/ Mechanical Engineering Help?! A Ford Ranger with a mass of 2430 kg is traveling at a velocity of 85 mph down a mountain road. The brakes fail and the driver elects to use a "run away" truck ramp to stop the vehicle. The ramp has an incline of 15.0 degrees. What is the minimum length the ramp must be in order for this strategy to stop the truck? Neglect friction and air resistance.
  • Is there a way to tell if mechanical switched engine or transmission? Dropped car off shady car repair shop. Been few days and they added a few more for what seems to be simple fixes. I get maybe ordered parts. But my mind is racing that they are swapping part since low miles car. Can I tell when I get the car back from like vin number? Would it match engine serial number or something? Just worried they keep stalling and shady. Regret even going there. It's an 05 ford.
