Why is my engine sluggish when hot for a while?
2003 Ford Focus.
When I drive for more than a half hour on a hot day, the engine will be sluggish and misfire while under load. I have checked several components and I suspect that the problem is either the fuel injectors or the spark plug wires.
Start with the inexpensive stuff, air filter, wires and plugs. Fuel filter if is not inside the tank. Check alternator voltage and current output and fuel pressure.
No improvement, see a mechanic with a scan tool and check live sensor data when the car is being driven with a hot engine. O2 sensors that are sluggish could be a cause. A clogged cat converter can also be a factor.
Hi the misfire is the coil pack breaking down electrically. So you need a new one.
- Why does my Ford Ranger start rough idle when engine is hot? I have a 2002 Ford Ranger XLT 4X4 with 4.0 litre SOHC engine, it starts good when cold, but I get a rough idle start when the truck was already used and heated up. Engine diagnostics show nothing, I changed the air filter a month ago, changed platinum plugs and plug wires last year, regular oil and filter changes been done. I'm running out of ideas on the cause of this rough idle. Any suggestions, please answer.
- 1994 Ford Ranger, Rough Cranking When Engine Is Warm/Hot? - 1994 Ford Ranger - 2.3l Engine - 110k Miles My truck has been having problems cranking when the engine is warmed up/hot. When the engine is cold or hasn't been started for like 2-3hours, it will start right up. I have a few ideas of what it may be, but I would like others opinions also. - ECT Sensor? - ICM? - Crank Sensor? Those are the three I have thought of that could be causing a problem with my situation.
- I have a 1999 Ford Mustang GT and its sluggish when taking off? What could be the issue? Its sluggish on power usually only happens in the first 3 gears between 1800 and 2000 rpms. And also when I give it gas at idle it stays at 2000 rpm before idling down. 178k miles. Just changed a faulty o2 sensor. So what else could possibly making it do this. Probably plugs and coil on plugs need to be changed? If any advice it would greatly help thanks
