1994 Ford Ranger, Rough Cranking When Engine Is Warm/Hot?

- 1994 Ford Ranger
- 2.3l Engine
- 110k Miles

My truck has been having problems cranking when the engine is warmed up/hot. When the engine is cold or hasn't been started for like 2-3hours, it will start right up.

I have a few ideas of what it may be, but I would like others opinions also.

- ECT Sensor?
- ICM?
- Crank Sensor?

Those are the three I have thought of that could be causing a problem with my situation.

If you mean rough cranking by the starter drags when tryin to start engine after it has warmed up check this. Check battery cables, engine ground cables, and cables attached to starter. Check for tight connection and corrosion.Repair if necessary. Get battery tested, this can be done while the battery is still installed. If its good, the starter is getting ready to go completely out.Remove it and have it tested. If you mean, the starter turns over fine but it has to be cranked continuously in order to get the engine started(hard starts)check this: A clogged fuel filter, defective fuel pump, or faulty fuel pressure regulator can cause hard starts. The map sensor, faulty or clogged egr valve or pipe, bad evp sensor(bolted to egr valve)faulty ignition module, or dirty maf sensor can cause hard starts.Remove maf sensor and spray electrical contact cleaner on heated wires, let dry, then reinstall. The egr valve can be cleaned with carb cleaner.Autozone can test ignition module if you remove and bring to them
