What are some nice hatchback or sporty cars? - 1
I'm 15 and will be 16 by October. I'm working my a$$ off at a summer job just to afford a car.ill only bring in around $4000. I like the 90's Honda civics and the new ford focus st(I obviously can't afford that). I was also looking at the Grand Prix gt since they're relatively cheap. I also really like the Honda del sol and crx. I really like the look of the hatchbacks so what are some nice hatchbacks in my price range? Also what are some relatively cheap sporty cars?
Prefer a manual but will drive an auto.
I owned a 1988 Honda CRX for several years (until a drunk driver hit me and the vehicle was destroyed), and I would recommend that car to anyone. It was incredibly reliable--150,000 miles of the 300,000 miles on its odometer were from me, and I basically only changed the oil, and replaced a handful of relatively inexpensive parts. It consistently gave me over 40 miles per gallon. The insurance was incredible cheap. And it kept me alive and relatively uninjured even though the drunk driver slammed into my rear passenger quarter at over 70 mph, while I was at a stop (its crash performance surprised me, given the small size of the car).
On the down side, it's a two-seater, and as these cars get to be 20+ years old, they will of course have increasing amounts of repairs and maintenance. Having owned many cars though over the last twenty years from Dodge Neons to Chevrolet Corvettes, I have to honestly say that it was the greatest return on my investment for any car I've ever owned.
I would not go with the Grand Prix. With no offense to several members of my family who are employees of GM, there are vehicles that they built that are--I'm not sure how else to say this--disposable. The Grand Prix, Sunfire, Beretta, and several other older model GM cars tend to have a lot of maintenance issues as they age, and you really don't want or need that level of frustration when all you want to do is drive. I currently own a 20-year old Camaro and a 30-year old Corvette, and I can assure you that it's not fun to be under the hood every two or three weeks for something.
I should note that because of your age, you will probably appreciate owning a cheaper car because of insurance rates. Also, regardless of how good of a driver you may assume you will be, we're all capable of crashes from time to time, and this is especially true in the early years of learning. I wish you years of safe and accident-free operation, but with that said, the odds are in favor of you having at least one minor accident in your first car. For that reason, I'd concentrate on cost and reliability for your first vehicle, and worry about appearance and performance after you have at least a year or two of driving under your belt.

I have a 2004 svt ford focus and I paid 11k for it. It's a bad 4 cylinder with a 2.0 dohc and a lot of other racing things and with a 6 speed transmission. But let's get back to the point I'm 17. And my buddy just bought a brand new del sol 92 everything was rebuilt everything! And he paid 2,500 for it. You know why? Because the man had a kid on the way. He was asking 7,000 on craigslist but he just kept coming down on it! What I'm trying to say is (GET ON CRAIGSLIST AND TYPE IN THE CAR YOU WANT)
There are sweet bargains of old yet excellent condition cars on Ebay.com/MOTORS
- What are some good first cars? - 1 I'm 16 and I want to get a car. I want something unique. Something when someone I know sees it going down the street, they'll know it's me. Here's some cars I was thinking of. -1988 Merkur XR4Ti -1991 Ford Crown Victoria Country Squire -1994 Mazda Navajo -2002 Lincoln Blackwood Which one should I get? What other unique cars should I look at?
- Why are some Ford cars (like the Taurus and Focus) such unreliable cars? I'm looking at cars in the $3000 - $4500 range and I'm noticing a decent amount of Ford Taurus's and Focus's and out of all the cars that I see, these are two cars that just seem so unreliable. I test drove a Focus last year and it sounded like something was wrong with the engine.
- Do some people really care that much about driving a really nice car? My dad is perfectly okay with his 1992 Ford Taurus with 210,000 miles on it, no heat (he lives in Chicago btw), no A/C, and a f::::ked up passenger side door. He's not poor by any means, he's a CFO of a bank. He just says that driving that P. Builds character and he only cares about having a car that can take him from point A to point B.
- Sporty first car 4 cylinders? Hi, I'm looking for my first car I want a four-cylinder because its better on gas insurance will be lower but I also want something sporty and not something everyone has I like the Ford Probe but there's not many around where I live
